The Wise Men who visited the newborn Jesus on Epiphany had a lot to lose when they left home to follow the star. They had recognition and prestige in their home countries, and they had no idea where the star was leading them.

But they went out into the great unknown, because they were searching for something bigger than themselves, and they trusted God to take them where they needed to go.

God’s call takes us out of our comfort zone, but it promises to lead us toward something much greater than what we had before.

This Epiphany, celebrated this year on January 7, we can pray for the courage to leave behind the things that are holding us back and go out in search of real Beauty and real Light, so we can become agents of transformation, bringing the Light of Christ to everyone we meet.

Here are the Mass readings for this feast day.
