Friday, December 14 Advent Reflection
Friendship is one of the great joys in life. What would we do without friends we could count on? And who among us wouldn’t go the extra mile for a friend?
The joy of a good friendship is a gift from God, and it points us to God’s love because it’s a reflection of it. Why do you love your friends? There’s no way to answer that question because we don’t love our friends for a reason — we love them because they are them. And that’s how God loves us.
St. Augustine knew this, and wasn’t afraid to rely on his friends. He also carefully cultivated friendships that better reflected God’s love for him.
Something transcendent happens when we share joy with others, especially with friends — it’s a glimpse of heaven. List in your mind the people in your closest circle of friends. Send them a text message today to tell them you are grateful for their presence in your life.
