This volunteer shares her intentional community living experience, including how she was able to help those in need.

This week Grotto catches up with Emily Okupski. She is a volunteer with Nazareth Farm — an intentional community based on "simplicity, service, community, and prayer" — where she did home repairs for people in need.

Video Transcript

Emily Okupski: My name is Emily Okupski. Nazareth Farm is an intentional community that's based on simplicity, service, community, and prayer. It's unlike anything I've ever experienced before. It's really a place that sheds the things that we realize are unnecessary in our everyday lives and teaches us the value of community and compassion.

We were going to a different home repair site every day, and I knew nothing about home repair, but they teach you everything you need to know.

One of my favorite things was interacting with the homeowners. Everyone was so grateful and so kind and so humble. You learn what it means to kind of have a relationship with yourself, with the environment, and with God, and with others.
