Why have hope? "God is alive in every human being," says Julian Paparella. Things are never as doomed as some people may proclaim them to be. "God is working through history."

Julian Paparella: I think the most important thing is to have a sense of hope. Never be prophets of false doom, as John the Twenty-Third said.
Never say, "Everything is garbage. It's never going to work. It's never going to change." No. God is alive in every human being, God is in every person's life, and God is in the life of the Church.
We can't be disillusioned or disappointed when things don't turn around 180 degrees right away. Nevertheless, to have hope, to continue to believe that God is at work in the Church, that God is working through us even though we're human, is working through history, and how, with hope, we continue to follow him, continue to let ourselves be guided and inspired by God in every generation.
